The evenings are longer, the grass is greener, and the spring flowers have finally bloomed. It’s a gorgeous time of the year to visit Birmingham and no better time for a family trip than Easter Break. We know it can be tiring and costly to entertain the kids (for two full weeks!) so we’ve put together a handy list of things to do on your visit to Birmingham.

Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery

While a break from school is a great rest for kids, it’s hard to keep their minds occupied without it feeling like they’re learning too much. Visit the Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery has some very cool and educational events happening over the break. The family-friendly Make &Take this month is Emoji Masks – which kids absolutely love. There are also interactive exhibits which give families to get to know the works of Leonardo DaVinci and practice some ‘Junk Modelling’ with special Easter-themed ‘junk’.

Easter Egg Hunt

What is Easter without some delicious Cadbury’s Chocolate! This year the chocolate factory has an egg-citing range of events for children of all ages to enjoy. You can enjoy a live show with Mr. Cadbury's Parrot and friends, enjoy a special Easter egg hunt, design their own Easter bonnet or indulge in a chocolate-themed afternoon tea, especially for kids. They may even be expecting a visit from the Easter Bunny himself! It’s a lively and exciting day out for kids of all ages and especially fun at this time of the year.

Encourage their musical and cultural side with a trip to Midlands Arts Centre to see David Baddiel’s hilariously lively AniMALCOLM the musical, based on his best-selling book. You’ll meet Malcolm who does not like animals and his family who absolutely love them in every shape and size. Malcolm goes on a very special school trip and learns a lot about animals, the world and most importantly, himself. It’s a great mix of music, dancing and puppetry and is suitable for kids aged 5+.

Ice Age Exhibition

We’re so lucky to be the first hosts of Ice Age: The Lost Kingdom right here in Birmingham Botanical Gardens & Glasshouses. This exhibition shows us what it was like to live in the Ice Age and gives us a chance to explore alongside 40 majestic beasts that roamed the earth over 70,000 years ago. This huge exhibition is not just for kids, prepare for the whole family to be enthralled and educated.
